A row erupted recently over plans to rename ‘The Midget’ pub in Abingdon after campaigner deemed it offensive. A counter petition was inevitably launched to keep the name. Meanwhile, one newspaper rummaged up some other pub names. The Juggs in Lewes was mentioned, although the name is “simply an innocent nod to baskets used by fishwives to carry their husbands' catch to market.”
Brazilian greats Roberto Carlos and Gilberto Silva captained two sides at Lewes FC this week, a match organised by Striver, an abuse-free social media platform. Carlos scored an obligatory free kick.

Jimmy Edwards, who died in 1988, was revered as a comedy writer and actor and is buried in Fletching. He served in the RAF, his Dakota shot down at Arnhem in 1944. It resulted in facial injuries requiring plastic surgery, that he disguised with a large handlebar moustache that became his trademark.

SIR – The Rampion wind farm off the Sussex coast buried a cable from Lancing to Twineham. It is now almost impossible to see where the cable is laid.
It appears that the only reason for not considering this nationally is that the Government has set an impossibly short timescale for completion. The irony of this is that we will fail to achieve net zero in the time allotted and Britain’s landscape will be left completely cluttered with pylons.
